BJP national executive meet: Modi steals the show

New Delhi: Senior leaders LK Advani and Sushma Swaraj skipped the Mumbai national executive on Friday raising several eyebrows. But the man who really stole the show was Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

After two days of high political drama at the Mumbai national executive a temporary truce has been called between Narendra Modi and Nitin Gadkari with Sanjay Joshi's exit from the meet, but not all issues seems to have been resolved. Conspicuous by their absence at Friday's rally were two top BJP leaders LK Advani and Sushma Swaraj, both claiming prior engagements in Delhi.

Former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa's almost daily tirades and the BJPs failure to rein him in have in particular upset the BJP patriarch. Advani and other also had to fall in line on another issue - Gadkari's second terms as president after an RSS push.

It was only Modi, who could extract a price participating and approving Gadkari's extension, in the process imposing himself both over the party and the saffron fountainhead.

In the present scheme of things, Gadkari will be the party president when the next general elections are held but will the BJP project anyone in particular as the Prime Ministerial candidate as in the past?

BJP leader MM Joshi said, "Our party works on an ideology, it's not a personality centric party."

Having asserted himself within, Modi now prepares to face the electorate in Gujarat by this year end.
