New program addresses insurance industry demand
Delgado Community College and the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of Louisiana are partnering to launch a program for students interested in careers in the insurance industry.
The Louisiana Insurance Academy, a 10-week program focused on launching insurance careers, will allow students to obtain two industry-based certifications. They will also receive job placement assistance from insurance agencies statewide.
A Delgado news release said the program is the result of the college’s conversations with local insurance firm Gillis, Ellis and Baker Inc. about the growing demand for jobs in the industry.
Classes taught by insurance professionals start Sept. 30 and will be held three times a week at Delgado’s City Park campus. The subject matter includes customer service, homeowners’ insurance, commercial property insurance and commercial liability insurance.
Information sessions will be held Tuesday and Wednesday evening at the City Park campus.
